Class Schedule
Shooting for Photoshop
10:00 to 11:00 A.M.
If you're approaching digital the same way you shot film, then you have alot to learn about shooting before you can take full advantage of all of the digital tools available. In this session you'll learn how to produce images that would be impossible in a traditional darkroom. Techniques will include: 1) How to slow down water without slow shutter speeds, 2) Learn to reduce or eliminate environmental mist, 3) Changing background colors by filtering the subject's light, 4) Creative light painting and streak photos with a difference, 5) Shooting techniques that ensure accurate color and skin tones, 6) Combining two less–than–ideal shots to produce an acceptable result, 7) Hand-held extreme panoramas that will blow your mind, 8) Learn a two-shot process for making flash look natural, and 9) Simulating sunrise or sunset light.
High Dynamic Range Imaging
11:15 A.M. to 12:15 P.M.
Learn how to capture the full brightness range of a scene when shooting in harsh lighting conditions, and find out how to enhance the detail in those images in a way that you will leave your viewers asking "is that a photo or an illustration?". This multi-exposure technique is taking the world by storm and is ideal in any of the following situations: 1) When the brightness range of a scene is too wide to capture in a single shot, 2) When shadow detail is overly important, 3) When there is a tremendous amount of important critical fine detail in a scene, and 4) When you want to produce a unique illustrative effect.
LUNCH BREAK
12:15 to 1:15 P.M.
Adjustment Essentials
1:15 to 2:15 P.M.
Explore Photoshop CS4's new adjustments and masks panels and see how they can solve even the most challenging adjustment issues. We'll concentrate on the two most versatile adjustments in Photoshop and throw in a few specialty adjustments for good measure. These techniques will push you well beyond simple "Dodge & Burn" layers and will help you learn how to effectively handle: 1) Eliminating sunburn and blotchy skin, 2) Simulating graduated neutral density filters, 3) Processing a RAW file twice using smart objects and masks, 4) Smoothing out uneven skies, and 5) Instant Color Correction.
Controlling the Viewer's Experience
2:30 to 3:45 P.M.
Learn to direct your viewer's eye through your photographs by adjusting tone, color and sharpness. By doing so, you can help influence what they look at first, and also dictate what they ignore within an image. It all has to do with understanding how your brain interprets a scene and learning how to manipulate your imagery in such a way that guides your viewer's mind through the experience (Sound freaky? It works!). These techniques will take your photography to fascinating unchartered territories, and will give it a visual edge that will separate your work from your peers'.
Start to Finish
4:00 to 5:00 P.M.
Discover how the tips and techniques from the seminar can be combined to create truly awesome digital images. We'll work
through a series of images from start to finish so you can see how the techniques can be applied to everyday photos. We'll also take a few side trips to dissect some more unusual examples. This session is full of all the tiny, less obvious tips that can make a huge difference in how you work with Photoshop. Knowing something as simple as the keyboard shortcut for instantly selecting the desired layer or knowing about a hidden feature that can streamline your workflow in Photoshop.
